Protecting Your Rights After Job Loss or Other Financial Loss
If you have lost your job, or if you face overwhelming financial challenges because of illness, injury or divorce, a personal bankruptcy filing can help you get a fresh financial start. The bankruptcy laws have changed, though. You want an experienced and knowledgeable lawyer, someone who will help you carefully examine your options and make the best choices for your future.
At the office of Robert L. Caplan, Attorney at Law, I have been practicing bankruptcy law since 1994. I have built my practice on a commitment to personal service and attention, taking the time to carefully explain the law and process, as well as your options, so that you can make informed decisions. To set up a free initial consultation, contact my office by e-mail or call me at 614-252-2026.
People do not automatically lose their house or car when they file for bankruptcy.
My Personal Bankruptcy Practice
I handle all matters related to personal bankruptcy, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings. I will prepare and submit all the necessary documentation to complete your bankruptcy, and will represent you in all meetings or hearings with creditors, the bankruptcy trustee and the bankruptcy court.
When you come to me after the loss of a job, a divorce or an illness or injury, I will conduct a thorough evaluation of your financial situation to determine your options. I will walk you through the means test established by the recent revisions to the bankruptcy law, so that I can determine if you are eligible for permanently discharging some of your debts. If you qualify, I will carefully explain what debts can be wiped out, as well as what assets you can protect from sale in bankruptcy.
If you fail to qualify for Chapter 7, or prefer to repay your creditors over a three-to-five-year period, I will help you reorganize your debts under Chapter 13. I will help you put a reorganization plan together to submit to your creditors, and I will review any proposed repayment plans to make certain they are in your best interests.
